3. Eligibility Criteria (as on July 1, 2026):
Nationality: Indian Male candidates.
Age Limit: 21-25 years. Candidates must be born between July 1, 2001, and June 30, 2005 (both dates inclusive).
Age Relaxation:
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
SC/ST: 5 years
Personnel serving in Coast Guard or equivalent in Army/Navy/Air Force: 5 years
Educational Qualification:
General Duty (GD):
Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
Compulsory Subjects: Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to Intermediate (10+2) or Class XII (10+2+3 scheme of education or equivalent).
Candidates who completed graduation after a diploma are also eligible, provided their diploma included Physics and Mathematics.
Technical (Mechanical):
Engineering degree from a recognized university in Naval Architecture OR Mechanical OR Marine OR Automotive OR Mechatronics OR Industrial and Production OR Metallurgy OR Design OR Aeronautical OR Aerospace. OR
Equivalent qualification recognized by the Institutes of the Engineers (India) as exempted from Section 'A' and 'B' of their associate membership examination (AMIE).
Minimum 60% aggregate marks in the engineering degree.

Candidates withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any other service training academy are not eligible.
Candidates should not have been arrested, convicted, or prosecuted on criminal charges.
Candidates debarred from appearing in any public service exam are not eligible.
Final year/semester degree course students are eligible to apply, but they must submit a bonafide certificate issued by their university/institution at the time of PSB/FSB interview, stating that their final year/semester result is not yet declared.

6. Selection Procedure (5 Stages):
The selection of Assistant Commandants is based on an All India order of merit, determined by the candidate's performance across five mandatory stages and the number of available vacancies. All candidates will undergo compulsory biometric, photo identification, and document verification at each stage.
Stage I: Coast Guard Common Admission Test (CGCAT) (Screening Test)
Mode: Computer-based online examination.
Pattern: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).
Marks: 400 marks.
Questions: 100 questions.
Marking Scheme: 4 marks for each correct answer; 1 mark deducted for each incorrect answer (negative marking).
Duration: 2 hours.
Medium: English only.

Reasoning & Numerical Ability: 25 questions (100 marks)

Stage II: Preliminary Selection Board (PSB)
Candidates shortlisted from Stage I based on merit are called for PSB.
Tests:
Computerised Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT): Objective type, conducted in English only.
Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT): Candidates are expected to speak and discuss in English, but they can also use Hindi if preferred.
Nature: Qualifying in nature (Recommended/Not Recommended).
Verification: Photo and biometric verification against Stage I data. Document verification.
Stage III: Final Selection Board (FSB)
Candidates who clear PSB proceed to FSB, which typically spans 4-5 days at the Coast Guard Selection Board (CGSB), Noida.

Verification: All original documents/certificates verified during PSB are again required.
A Board Conference is held on the last day.
Stage IV: Medical Examination
Candidates recommended by FSB undergo a special medical examination at Base Hospital, New Delhi.
If declared unfit by the Special Medical Board (SMB), candidates have the right to appeal and undergo another medical check at a designated service hospital within 42 days.
Stage V: Induction
A final All India Merit List is prepared based on the combined marks of Stage I (CGCAT) and Stage III (FSB), along with medical fitness.
Provisionally selected candidates report to the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, for the Naval Orientation Course (NOC).
Prior to induction, a final biometric and photo verification is conducted.
7. Salary and Benefits (Assistant Commandant):
Starting pay: ₹56,100/- per month (Pay Level 10)
In addition to pay, Assistant Commandants receive various allowances and benefits as per government rules, including Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance (if not provided with quarters), Transport Allowance, medical facilities, free ration, subsidised accommodation, and more.
